Qreer team attended FISITA 2014 – the World Automotive Congress. We were able to meet not only specialists in automotive engineering, but also Human Resourse professionals in the automotive industry.
Recruiters from all Automotive Europe shared their opinions on how successful the first 5 months of 2014 appeared to be for companies in the automotive business. The survey was conducted to discover the current extent of business stability in the industry: the rate of personnel turnover, obstacles of approaching the right candidates and necessities for cutting down HR expenses.
To begin with, the results that we discovered show a positive tendency, although the automotive market does not seem to recover rapidly. Particularly, approximately 55% of automotive companies reported that the number of hired employees exceeds the number of fired ones.
Although the number of candidates looking for jobs considerably overruns the number of vacancies available in Europe, automotive companies experience difficulties of finding appropriate candidates for filling their open positions. According the outcomes of the survey, only 9% of companies have no problem at all when it comes to approaching the right professionals.
We asked HR specialists to specify the essence of the difficulties to find the right specialists. Opinions divided, but the tendency is clear. With reference to 60% of recruiters, there are simply not enough technicians in Europe matching the precise requirements companies put forward. At the same time, 30% of recruiters concluded that it is difficult to discover particular specialists in countries where businesses reside. 30% of respondents reported that it is difficult to find specific employees such as electronic engineers, transmission engineers, software developers, senior managers and professionals speaking peculiar languages.
The survey highlights positive trends for the industry in the following half a year: 82% of companies agreed that they are not going to reduce HR expenses. Interestingly, the same number of companies (82%) have plans to create new job positions in the rest of 2014.
The overall impression of HR specialists we spoke to is the following: the automotive industry is recovering from crisis, while some dilemmas are still to be solved. We assume that these problems are inevitably linked to approaching the right professionals for product development. Solution can be found in becoming more open to technicians from diverse European countries and, if necessary, from all the globe. Corporate culture has to accommodate international standards and except high skilled professionals speaking international languages rather than those dominating in regions of business location.
To be competitive in a modern European market, automotive companies may consider to become more broad-minded to seize new opportunities represented by educated and talented technicians.
