Expat-pro: Lifehack for engineers moving abroad for a job

    Go for a trial.
When it comes to such a life-changing decision as moving abroad for a new career opportunity, it is definitely worthwhile to check out everything before you accept the offer. Reading forums online is all well and good, but nothing replaces your personal experience. Spend several week in your home-to-be and only then make a final decision.

    Get aware of cultural differences.
You have already moved or just thinking about relocating to another country for a job? This is another environment with its unique culture, laws and many other aspects. Things work differently here, and the sooner you get to know how exactly, the better for you. When in Rome do as Romans do, remember?

Open your heart for new experience.
You might feel home-sick at the beginning of your life as an expat. Just try not to focus on your past life back home, look around you: make new friends, join some clubs of your interest and explore the country or the city you moved to.

    Consider meeting other expats.
Who would understand you better than a person in the same circumstances? Nowadays it is even easier to get in touch with other expats: there are plenty of expat-related groups on various social networks including Facebook and LinkedIn, for example. Just don’t hang out online all the time, but actually try to meet people.

Learn the language, at least basics.
Imagine an emergency happened and no one around you speak English. It might happen, it might not, but having that skill to simply explain something will make you feel more comfortable in your new country. What is more, having some elementary language skills can help you to make contacts with locals and get to know the place better.
