    2018 Jobs Tips: For Candidates and Recruiters

    2017 has ended and we are now starting the new year. For us in the business of recruitment it can mean different things.  As a candidate whether active or passive searchers it could mean the ending of a contract, a recent graduate looking for new challenges or just looking for a change in profession. Below you will find three tips that can be applied as a candidate and three that are applicable to recruiters. These are qualities that can lead to a very successful future in recruitment.

     

     

     

    As a candidate approaching this milestone, here are a few pointers to remember:

    1. Start Looking Early

    Start the job search as soon as possible! This way you as a candidate can transition easily from one job to the next without falling in the unemployment group.  As graduates it can be an exciting transition being a candidate who is eager to impart his/her recently acquired knowledge with the company you will be working for.

    1. Networking

    Never underestimate the power of you network, whether it is professional or social. As a candidate seeking to change or grow your career path make use of those relationships you may have developed over time. It could be the case that a member of your network knows someone at the company you wish to be employed. Making a referral on your behalf is seeing your network that you have worked so hard to develop work for you.

    1. Be Ready

    Make sure your CV is updated with all relevant changes you have made within the past year. If you have moved, your telephone number has changed, you have done a new professional course, you should be sure to update your CV to reflect same. Be a stand out candidate and get informed by the latest trends within your field of interest, especially the technological advances being made.

     

    If you are a recruiter, this time of year gives you the opportunity to evaluate and assess your past year performance. Whether or not your evaluation result is positive or not  there are always ways and means in which one can improve.  Below are a few improvements you as a recruiter may consider:

     

    1. Make Application Easier

    Making the application process as simple and easy to understand is always appreciated by applicants.  As a recruiter you can make expectations as clear and real as possible, making sure items such as takes and responsibilities as well as skills required are well defined in plain terms.

    Having a mobile friendly application process also add to the ease of the applicants, communicating with the applicant and providing updates can also be considered, as this keep applicants abreast with what is happening and making them so engaged they are eager to work with your company. An imaginative switching of roles from a recruiter to being a candidate may better help you understand some of the challenges they face and hence will to make the process much easier.

    1. Never Stop Recruiting

    As a recruiter, despite filling the positions you had available for the year you should not stop recruiting.  Like everything else you will need a plan B, a just in case if you will, and by continuous recruiting when all positions are filled gives you a pool of plan B candidates. You may well have liked a specific candidate who for whatever reason chose another company and indicate he/she is happy, this can change suddenly which give you the change to have your ideal candidate. The reverse is also possible where an employee of yours may suddenly leave. By constant recruitment the chances of having a replacement in a short period of time is greater.

    1. Be a Better Recruiter

    There is always room for improving oneself and as a recruiter it is no different, whether this is through continuous practice of recruiting skills such as interviewing which can be challenging especially young recruiters. Continue to practice and do more interviews, do self-evaluation and aim to be more comfortable with your candidates. It may be that you want to do a short professional course for self-development, if this is so go for it.
